Marquette recruiting rollercoaster lands in a good place (updated)

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

In a manner of three weeks the incoming recruiting class went from 20th, dropped to 49th and rebounded today to 17th - and could move again. Here's how it happened.

Coach Wojo's incoming class was ranked 20th with commits by Stevie Mitchell, Kameron Jones and Jonas Aidoo. Mitchell and Jones recommitted to MU under coach Shaka Smart, but Aidoo chose not. Since then, Aidoo has shot up the recruiting charts and listed as high as 33rd in the nation which would have made Wojo's 20th ranking likely improve. Today, Aidoo signed with Tennessee. We should not that Justin Gainey, former MU assistant under Wojo and lead recruiter of Aidoo, was hired at Tennessee this week. You connect the dots.

Today, Coach Smart landed three players by flipping them from Texas to Marquette. David Joplin from Brookfield, is staying home to play for Marquette. Keegan Itejere and Emarion Ellis also will follow Smart to Milwaukee.

Late in the day MU added Tyler Kolek, the A-10 Freshman of the Year, from George Mason.

The recruiting class is now rated 17th per 247.
